Let's see... I wore a black dress, black wedge heels, champagne cropped sweater, turquoise bib necklace, gray leggings, and carried my Lilly Pulitzer Elephant Chevron clutch. AB wore a black dress, turquoise flats, silver dangly earrings, and carried a green-turquoise shoulder bag.
We arrived at the farm, only a few miles from my house. Parked in the recently cut hay field. Sauntered past the pond, bonfire, and assorted barns and paused to chat with Mo, her hubs, and her momma. Then wandered up to the party barn to find something refreshing to drink, see and be seen - as is the custom. We glanced at the silent auction items. Spoke to those we knew, introduced ourselves to a few we did not.
Observed the grill masters, hard at work preparing our dinner. And wandered to the paddocks to see if we could pet the horses. We admired the flowers and scenery (see photos).
And then proceeded to find seats near the stage. We sat with two delightful couples, but found the barn uncomfortably warm after the side doors were closed to block the glare of the setting sun. Since we were near the front, we got to go through the buffet line first, after the pledge of allegiance, blessing of the food, announcements, and recognition of veterans and service members, of course.
The food was delicious! Steak, baked potato, carrots, corn, fruit salad, and rolls. Yum! Stowell's Catering always puts on a lovely spread! (I should know, I've only eaten their food 3 times in the last week.)
The music was rather loud so it was difficult to converse with other members of our table. As we were finishing our plates, Mo came over and AB and I offered to help organize the silent auction check out. AB collected final auction slips and I ran credit cards through this nifty device that connected to the app on someone's phone. It was mass chaos for at least 45 minutes. Once the live action began, things settled down and AB and I retired from our impromptu duties to enjoy strawberry cream pie and sit with Mamatez for the duration of the evening.
Best moment of the whole evening occurred after our traipse through the dark hay field to AB's car. Turning out of the farm, we noticed some strange lights in the sky. I joked that we were witnessing an alien invasion. In a grand spirit of adventure, we followed the source of the lights and discovered that they were not aliens - I was disappointed - but chinese lanterns being released from someone's yard. AB pulled the car over and we marveled at the wonderful sight they created. The movie Tangled makes a lot more sense now. The lanterns really are beautiful.
AB took me home and we gave a summary of the evening's events to my parents, much like what you've read. And that is all.
Thus, my first time attending the Rotary Roundup. Thank you and good night!

My First Visit to the Wisconsin State Fair
I started a new job a few months ago and as a part of my job, I got to go to the state fair! Mo and I arrived around 9 a.m. at the fairgrounds. We got a free parking pass and free tickets because we were vendors. Woohoo!
It was Mo's first time at the state fair, too, so we got a little lost but finally found our spot in the Discover Wisconsin tent in the central mall.
We set up our table and started telling everyone who stopped by how awesome Burlington is and how they should come visit or move to our town and stay forever. Cause it's that cool!
And I got Mo's pickles, too! After lunch, and more talking up Burlington, listening to the sweet JAMS from the band in the pavilion

We got some blended coffee and candied almonds - the perfect combination for a humid day at the fair. And then we talked up Burlington like it's the best place to visit - and live - in Wisconsin. BECAUSE IT IS!
Around 11 a.m, as per usual, we started to get hungry. After surveying our options, we decided on 25 Different Kinds of Grilled Cheese! One of the best decisions, we've ever made!
It was delicious!

AND A PARADE with MOUNTED POLICE!!!
... my wonderful parents came to relieve us for a while.
Aren't they the best parents?!?!
Mo and I wandered off into the fair and bought cheese curds and deep fried green beans. We considered a wine tasting but didn't think it would be responsible to get tossed before going back to woman our booth. We picked up some pretzel bites, a hot dog for my mom, cherry pie, and chocolate covered cherries. Wisconsin State Fair has the best foods - and they're from WISCONSIN!
Oh, and we saw New Jersey Governor Chris Christie and his family... boo-yah!
All in all, it was a pretty sweet FIRST - can't wait for my next FIRST!
Any Recommendations?

I'm Not That Girl • Lyrics
Hands touch, eyes meet. Sudden silence, sudden heat.
Hearts leap in a giddy whirl, He could be that boy...
But I'm not that girl.
Don't dream too far. Don't lose sight of who you are.
Don't remember that rush of joy.
He could be that boy... I'm not that girl.
Every so often we long to steal to the land of what-might-have-been.
But that doesn't soften the ache we feel when reality sets back in.
Blithe smile, lithe limb, she's winsome, she wins him.
Gold hair with a gentle curl, that's the girl he chose.
And heaven knows... I'm not that girl.
Don't wish. Don't start. Wishing only wounds the heart.
I wasn't born for the rose and pearl.
There's a girl I know... He loves her so...
I'm not that girl....

Mature Enough • Reflection
"Being nice to someone you dislike doesn't mean you're a fake.
It means you are mature enough to tolerate your dislike towards them."
I don't feel mature. And I have a difficult time being kind to people who have wronged me. I want to forgive, I want to love them, or at least treat them with the respect that they have refused me. It is so hard. But, I muddle through.
I somehow manage to put on a sincere and pleasant expression; to handle myself with grace and poise; and to convince those around me that I find them more than tolerable, even that I actually like them. It sounds prissy the way I describe it here, but in reality it is an act of God allowing me to show grace and mercy to those who frequently hurt me. And it is my mother and grandmother's voices in my head reminding me to be ladylike and gentle.
Ladylike and gentle.
It seems impossible that I be considered by anyone to be ladylike.
Certainly never gentle.
And yet, I soldier on. Striving to treat those around me with respect and dignity, though I would much rather not be around them at all. I cannot hide from them, everyone I encounter has mistreated someone and likely will one day mistreat me. Just as I often give in to my sin nature and mistreat them.
So I choose to forgive and attempt to be a lady. To treat others well. To lead by example, if I can. And to fight injustice with strength and grace, poised for battle with gentle hands. Kill them with kindness, God will handle the rest.
